About
Welcome to the Rosehip Herbal Clinic. Here you will find everything you need to know about accessing one to one herbal support from me, Nicole Rose.
The clinic operates on a sliding scale and offers in depth personalised herbal support. Sessions take place online, and medicines are posted directly from the land where I live and grow.
Who I work with
Many people come to this clinic because they are exhausted. Not just physically, but emotionally, mentally or socially. They may have spent years caring for others, navigating chronic stress, trauma, financial pressures, chronic illness, difficult life experiences or simply doing what was necessary to get through the day. Often, they have been carrying more than felt sustainable for a very long time.
Over time, these experiences can leave their mark on the body. People often arrive struggling with sleep, anxiety, digestive issues, chronic illness, pain, hormonal changes, panic attacks, nightmares or a feeling that they have become disconnected from themselves. Others simply know that they do not feel like themselves anymore.
I am particularly interested in the ways trauma, chronic stress and structural harm shape the body and influence health. These experiences are not simply psychological. They can affect the nervous system, digestion, immunity, hormones, energy levels and our ability to rest, recover and engage fully with life.
My role is not simply to recommend herbs. Together, we explore what may be contributing to your symptoms, make sense of what is happening in your body, and identify practical ways to support it. Alongside herbal medicine, this may include nutrition, lifestyle changes, referrals or simply creating space to reflect on patterns that have gone unnoticed for a long time.
People come to me for many different reasons. Some want relief from anxiety, panic attacks or nightmares. Some want to wake up feeling rested. Others want more energy, fewer symptoms, greater resilience, or the capacity to engage more fully in the things that matter to them.
Many of the people I support are organisers, carers, prisoner family members, former prisoners and others working to support their communities. Others do not identify with any of these groups but share a common experience of carrying significant responsibilities or navigating challenging circumstances.
If your health has been shaped by carrying too much for too long, you are welcome here.

Why work with a herbalist?
I help people access the most effective plant medicines for their needs in formats such as teas, tinctures, glycerites and ointments. Herbs have thousands of years of traditional use and are chosen according to your unique constitution, history and context.
A one to one consultation with individualised herbal prescriptions and nutritional recommendations can save months of guessing and uncertainty. Unlike overstretched GPs, I can offer time to explore root causes of inflammation, fatigue, trauma responses and chronic challenges.

Prepare for our first call
Reflect on your main health needs. Consider how you want to feel in your body and what symptoms affect you most. Gather the names of any medications and recent test results. I will send two forms to complete in advance.
First consultation
This is a comprehensive call where we dive into your health history, different life experiences that may have shaped your body, things that are affecting you right now. We look at current health challenges and symptoms you are experiencing, as well as your goals and desires.
This takes roughly 40 mins – 1.5 hours depending on your context. If you are experiencing chronic fatigue, we can pace this across smaller calls if needed.
Herbal & Nutritional recommendations
After our call, I send a personalised plan explaining the herbs, supplements and nutritional changes I recommend. I’ll explain why I’ve chosen certain herbs so that you have informed consent and so you can feel more connected to the medicine. I’ll make sure you’re okay with my suggestions and tweak as needed. I believe working together in this way creates a more empowering process that builds health autonomy.
Start your medicine
I’ll post you whatever we’ve chosen together. It may be a tincture blend, glycerine blend, or dried herbs for tea, an ointment or a combination. I will aim to send this to you within one week of confirming your recommendations with you, however, I may need to make a new medicine especially for you which may take a little longer.
You will also be supported to start implementing any other recommendations e.g. further testing, supplements, nutritional changes etc.
Follow-up Calls
We reconnect after 4 to 8 weeks to assess how the herbs are supporting you. We discuss changes, next steps and any new prescriptions needed. Follow up calls can take between 15 mins and 1 hour depending on your context.

Example Recommendations and Medicine Packages
After consultations, clients receive detailed written herbal recommendations tailored to their history, symptoms, constitution, capacity and wider life context. Recommendations often include herbs, foods, practices, pacing strategies and practical support approaches chosen collaboratively and adjusted over time. Medicines are then prepared and posted directly from the dispensary in Somerset.

Why I Offer Five Month Packages and a Sliding Scale
I use a sliding scale so that herbal support can remain accessible to people affected by class and intersecting oppression, while also sustaining my livelihood and my ability to continue prisoner support and mutual aid work.
Herbal medicine works best with continuity, relationship and time. Most people who come to the clinic are dealing with long term stress, trauma or chronic conditions that cannot be addressed in a single session. A five month package allows time to build trust, track changes, pace recommendations, adjust medicines and support genuine transformation.
This longer container also creates clearer boundaries and reduces administrative pressure while I am balancing parenting, organising and limited clinical hours. It allows me to show up fully for the clients I am able to work with.
The sliding scale acknowledges different access to money and wealth, and helps redistribute resources so that the clinic can centre those most impacted by oppression. You can find full pricing details here.
About Nicole
Hello, I’m Nicole Rose (she/her).
I am a clinical herbalist based in Somerset in the West Country of England. I have been studying herbal medicine for more than 17 years and completed over 3,600 hours of clinical training through a four year programme with The Plant Medicine School in Ireland.
Throughout my clinical, educational and community work, I have developed a particular interest in the ways trauma, chronic stress and structural harm shape the body and influence health. This has shaped much of my practice and continues to inform how I understand health, illness and recovery.
Alongside my herbal training, I am committed to ongoing clinical education and have undertaken advanced training through the Institute of Functional Medicine in gastrointestinal, hormonal, immunological and environmental health.
I am a former Field Coordinator of the Mobile Herbal Clinic Calais, a project providing acute herbal care and first aid to refugees and asylum seekers in northern France. During the four years I worked in this role, the clinic supported more than 10,000 people. This work gave me extensive experience working with acute illness and injury, alongside the impacts of trauma, displacement, violence and chronic stress. I continue to support the project behind the scenes.
I have also been involved in prisoner solidarity work for more than two decades and have a particular understanding of the health impacts of imprisonment, state violence and structural harm.
Alongside my clinical practice, I am the founder of the Solidarity Apothecary and the Black Flag Herbal Clinic, host of the Frontline Herbalism Podcast, and author of four books exploring herbal medicine, burnout, imprisonment and collective care.
My own path into clinical herbalism was shaped by experiences of illness, burnout and navigating healthcare that often felt inaccessible and disempowering. As a working class person, I did not always see myself reflected in the practitioners or spaces I encountered. These experiences shaped my commitment to creating a collaborative approach that helps people better understand their bodies and actively participate in their own healing.

Testimonials
For the first time in my life I actually felt heard by a medical professional
I started receiving help from Nicole 18 months ago after a lifetime of surviving, working jobs that I sold my soul to and having lost most of my material security to a frontline campaign. I have lived with 2 autoimmune diseases for over twenty years have c-ptsd since childhood. Having been through the health service and living on prescribed overdoses of antihistamines alongside steroids on a daily basis to try and manage my symptoms and opioid pain relief, however the prescriptions increased and the symptoms persisted.
My first consultation with Nicole was nothing short of a miracle, for the first time in my life I actually felt heard by a medical professional, my spirits had lifted just by being heard. Nicole followed up the call with a write up, detailing the conversation and explaining their thoughts on what could help me and giving me the option of preparations of the herbs that would best suit me.
When the first box of medicine arrived I was overwhelmed by it all and hid it for a day or two then gradually started introducing the different medication into my day. The herbs have helped with my sleep, mood, anxiety, I still have daily autoimmune flare ups however this is due to not being able to access a clean diet however I am coming closer to achieving this. Nicole is a blessing in my life and I will be eternally grateful for her help and support.

This was a super held experience where I felt heard and trust was built.
I had a call with Nicole back in the spring. I was feeling very unwell with stomach issues and stress and she guided me through a range of questions in a really calming and consensual way. She then went on to ask what kind of herbal medicine would suit me and my lifestyle, wether that’s herbs or tinctures or both, how often could I get access to the herbs etc. This really changed my perception on using herbs as a medicine successfully, I was often taking things I’d bought from shops randomly at random doses and seeing no effect, but this process with Nicole helped me find my herbal rhythm. She calls me every so often to check in and offer further support and alter medicines if needed. This was a super held experience where I felt heard and trust was built.

I turned to Nicole mainly due to symptoms of PTSD from police violence
I turned to Nicole mainly due to symptoms of PTSD from police violence. I was hoping to get some relieve with my ongoing sleeping problems and I got so much more. As a trans and neurodivergent person I’m usually hesitant towards medical professionals. But Nicole encountered me with such empathy and kindness that it felt easy to open up. She has an amazingly holistic approach towards health and made sure to fully understand every important detail of my overall health and life situation before she suggested herbal medicine. It didn’t felt like just “being treated” – it felt like a collaboration centering around my needs. Nicole brings a broad and valuable knowledge base and she made sure, that I got all necessary information to participate fully in all decisions.
I worked with her for about six month. During this time she helped me with various issues. The recommended herbal medicine drastically improved my sleep problems, helped to calm down my agitated nervous system and improved my mood during winter. She even had some ideas how herbs could support me in my transitioning process and related issues like voice crack and muscle pain due to starting Testosterone. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to be supported by her and really recommend to reach out to her with whatever health issue bothers you, no matter how small or big it seems.
